Plan content before and after a small business event

Communication for a small business event serves different purposes before and after the date. Beforehand, people need enough information to decide and plan. Afterward, they need an understandable account of what happened.

Make attendance possible

Publish details that support a real decision: purpose, date, time, location, intended audience and any registration process. Explain whether places are limited and whether conditions apply. State only availability that is actually known.

Check the route from the post to registration. An address shown only inside an image is insufficient if it becomes unreadable on a phone. Important details should also appear in text or on a linked information page.

Make changes explicit. If the time changes, update every still-relevant notice rather than only the newest post. Otherwise attendees may travel with conflicting information.

Document selected moments

Decide beforehand which photographs will help explain the event later. An overview, a demonstration detail or an approved conversation may be useful. Collecting the largest possible number of pictures of people is not a worthwhile objective by itself.

Resolve how photographs and recordings will be handled. Not everyone attending wants to appear publicly. Plan subjects and recording arrangements so necessary permissions and consideration do not first become an issue under time pressure.

If posting live updates, keep them concise and accurate. Running the event takes priority over continuous social coverage.

Continue the useful information afterward

A recap can revisit the main questions or demonstrated steps. It does not have to become an exaggerated success announcement. Include attendance figures or outcomes only when they are supported and relevant to the explanation.

Actually provide promised materials and test access to them. If an answer remains outstanding, explain when or how it will be added where that is known.

Archive expired registration notices and clearly mark past dates. A later visitor should not mistake an old event for an upcoming one. Questions raised during the event can inspire new content without publicly analysing private conversations or individual attendees. This keeps the follow-up useful to people who attended as well as those encountering the subject for the first time.
